About the Japan Stanford Association (JSA)

With about 1800 members (1600 Japanese and 200 non-Japanese) the Japan Stanford Association (JSA) is one of Stanford University's largest and most active alumni organizations outside the United States and one of the most prominent foreign university alumni organizations in Japan.

The Japanese alumni club of Stanford, predecessor of JSA, is considered to have been established some 100 years ago, as we were notified by Stanford University of a very old fact that the name of a Japanese alumni club had appeared for the first time in 1920 at Stanford. It was in 1977 when the former Tokyo Stanford Club was renamed to the Japan Stanford Association (JSA) under Mr. Yoshio Higashiuchi as its President and was reorganized as a more formal nationwide association.

Since then, the JSA has been acting as the official subgroup of the Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) and attaining closer ties with Stanford University.  The JSA has been engaged in a number of collaborating projects such as rendering cooperation to the activities of the Stanford Japan Center for helping its students find suitable companies to work for as interns, having donated an endowed  scholarship fund to Stanford University under the name of "The Japan Stanford Association and Friends Fellowship Fund" which currently holds US$1,000,000 to support Japanese students studying at Stanford University.

Also, the JSA has been organizing about ten activities/events annually, including hosting receptions in honor of successive Presidents of Stanford University and other people related to the University, seminars and more casual events such as golf tournaments, Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties and Stanford football broadcast watching.

Furthermore, the JSA has been exchanging with Stanford Alumni organizations of other Asian countries corresponding to the recent global activities of Stanford University.

We, therefore, hope everyone will make most of the JSA and build more friendly and fruitful network among the people associated with Stanford through the JSA activities.
